STAY INFORMED

PENN MEDICINE Summer Program
for High School Students

Spend four weeks at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine in an immersive summer program for rising high school juniors and seniors interested in medicine. Modeled after first-year Penn Med classes, you’ll gain hands-on experience through simulations and demonstrations, with the potential to observe a live surgery. Live on campus, attend engaging sessions with top doctors, and explore the diverse paths of medicine. This program offers a glimpse into the life of a medical student and helps you pursue your passion in healthcare.

Program Requirements:

– Applicants must be entering Grade 11 or 12 in September 2025. 
– Applicants must have completed a high school level biology class prior to the start date.
Please Note: TOEFL Test is not required for international applicants.
  

Admissions Timeline:

– Application opens November 25, 2024.
– Completed applications due February 27, 2025. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

Admissions Decisions:
– Admission decisions will be communicated by March 31, 2025.
– Accepted students must pay the tuition deposit within 72 hours to hold their spot in the program.
– Students on the waitlist will be offered admission based on availability on a rolling basis.

Experience Your Summer
at THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA

At the Penn Med Program, you may:

  • Learn CPR techniques, first aid, and emergency care
  • Learn to suture & tie surgical knots
  • Learn to identify lung and heart sounds
  • Learn to perform skin biopsies
  • Learn to draw blood, start an IV, perform a spinal tap
  • Learn minimally invasive surgical techniques
  • Attend labs in gross anatomy, pathology, microbiology and urine analysis
  • Watch either a live or simulated surgery
  • Learn from over 20 doctors and clinicians in multiple specialties

Campus Life at PENN Medicine

DIVERSE EXPERIENCE

Many students come from around the world to join us each summer. Every year we hear how much students enjoy meeting people from so many different places and how it opened their eyes to different traditions, cultures, countries and more.

WEEKEND TRIPS

Trips are offered every Saturday to regional destinations such as New York City, The Jersey Shore, Washington, DC, Hershey Park or Six Flags. Sundays are for relaxing and exploring the Philadelphia area. Our trip schedules are somewhat flexible and will be adjusted based on weather and current events in each location.

Bowling, dances, casino night, talent shows, competitions, sports and more – most evenings there is a planned event offered.
Sometimes we stay on campus and on other nights we’ll travel to a local venue for an off-campus activity.

The Penn Med Hospital, Doctors, and Faculty

The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania was the nation’s first medical school! The high-tech, jaw-dropping learning spaces at Penn Medicine are every student’s dream.

You’ll learn from the highly accredited Penn Medicine doctors and faculty, who are involved throughout the program. Current medical students support small groups during the practical learning sessions to ensure correct techniques with one-on-one assistance.

ELIGIBILITY TO APPLY:
