The Engineering Summer Academy at Penn (ESAP) welcomes highly motivated and talented students to explore Engineering at the college level. The Academy’s intensive, three-week program combines sophisticated theory with hands-on practical experience in cutting-edge technologies. Work with leading faculty while earning college credit, live on Penn’s historic campus, and connect with new friends from around the world.

Summer Academy at Penn

Spend three weeks at the University of Pennsylvania’s College of Engineering in an immersive summer program designed to provide exceptional math and science students the opportunity to explore the field of Engineering before applying to college. Join accomplished students from around the world while living, eating, and learning at the University of Pennsylvania’s historic campus in Philadelphia, PA.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Program Requirements:

– Applicants must be entering Grade 10, 11 or 12 in September 2025. 
– Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, or equivalent
Please Note: TOEFL Test is required for international applicants. Applicants containing TOEFL scores below 80 will not be reviewed. For more information regarding international applicants, visit the ESAP Penn webpage.
  

Admissions Timeline:

– Application opens January 2, 2025.
– Completed applications due March 1, 2025. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

Admissions Decisions:
– Admission decisions will be communicated on April 1, 2025.
A non-refundable deposit of $1000 USD is due at the time of enrollment (date indicated on your admission letter). The remaining balance is due in full on the date reflected on your tuition bill.
– Students on the waitlist will be offered admission based on availability on a rolling basis.

Experience Your Summer
at THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA

At the Engineering Summer Academy, you may:

  • Explore the realm of artificial intelligence, focusing on generative AI and neutral networks.
  • Learn the fundamentals of molecular biology and have the opportunity to carry out molecular cloning experiments in the lab.
  • Learn the character pipeline for games and animation.
  • Learn the theoretical underpinnings of computer science so that they will understand such fundamental concepts as how we get from the 0’s and 1’s of machine language to highly complex software.
  • Learn topics in nanomaterials, nanofabrication techniques, imaging nanostructures, real-life applications of nanotechnology, nanoscience ethics, and other concepts necessary to understand why very small systems exhibit unique behavior.
  • Learn the state of the art in robotics, design, manufacturing, and automation.

DIVERSE EXPERIENCE

Many students come from around the world to join us each summer. Every year we hear how much students enjoy meeting people from so many different places and how it opened their eyes to different traditions, cultures, countries and more.

WEEKEND TRIPS

Trips are offered every weekend to explore the Philadelphia area. Our trip schedules are somewhat flexible and will be adjusted based on weather and current events in each location. Example trips include: Hershey Park, Philadelphia Zoo and the Philadelphia Phillies game!

evening activities

Bowling, dances, casino night, talent shows, competitions, sports and more – most evenings there is a planned event offered. Sometimes we stay on campus and on other nights we’ll travel to a local venue for an off-campus activity.
